Stay on top of it
The simplest and most obvious of rules to stick to, is just to stay on top of it! Whether it’s a regular clean with a scheduled professional, or a ten minute whizz-round at the end of the day, not allowing the cleaning to build up until it becomes stressful and seemingly insurmountable is a really easy way to make sure that it never becomes overwhelming.
Don’t put it down, put it away!
A great mantra to adopt, get your family into the habit of making sure things always end up where they belong, calling time on mountains of clutter and scattered belongings. Why not create a basket for each member of the family and place it on the stairs or in the hall to remind them to collect their things and put them away when they go upstairs or pass it on the way to their bedroom.
Declutter
The best way to reduce the potential of creating a mess, is to eliminate the things we make a mess with! A house full to the rafters with possessions attracts dust and can be a real challenge to keep clean and tidy. Having a good old clear out will make overall cleaning all the easier, and why not even set up a stall at the local vide grenier and make some money while you’re at it?
Make your bed as soon as you get up
One of the smallest tasks with the biggest impact, before you even reach for the morning coffee make sure the beds are properly made. It will instil a sense of order at the very start of the day, and will go a long way to making things feel clean and tidy, even if you know under the bed could do with a good vacuum!

So many households these days are turning to professional cleaning help given the time pressures that dominate modern family life. Perhaps just help with the weekly pile of ironing is all you need, or maybe you’d prefer to go all out and relinquish the cleaning rota entirely.
