January can be a trying month after the excitement of the festive period, and the winter weather is particularly skilled at driving us inside! But the season needn’t put the brakes on fun, and we’ve got some ideas on how to entertain the kids in the chilly winter months.

Ice skating

A winter classic if ever there was one! Although some seasonal outdoor ice rinks have shut up shop for another year, there are still some stunning spots in the city for an afternoon on the ice. Skate along with a view of the Eiffel Tower at the Aquarium de Paris at Trocadero (until early March) or why not throw in dinner too by dining and gliding at the beautiful Polpo Nord at Levallois Perret (until end of Feb)?

Winter scavenger hunt

Adatable for both indoors and outdoors, and for kids of all ages, a search for winter clues can be a real treat for all of the senses. Create your own list of seasonal sights, sounds and smells, like the first snowdrops appearing at the end of January or the smell of a warming hot chocolate, and give prizes to whoever spots them all first! If we’re lucky enough to have snow this winter, then it easily turns into a snowman hunt, or simply make your own!

Winter picnic

Who says it’s too cold to dine al fresco? Though you might want to avoid heading to the park on rainy days, on a sunny winter’s day, what could be more invigorating than relishing in the chilly air all rugged up in scarves, gloves and hats with a warming flask of hot chocolate or hearty soup? And why not add a winter scavenger hunt while you’re at it!

Board games

Computer games and smartphones might be the flavour of the century, but traditional board games are making a huge comeback! A great way to spend time with kids, friends and family alike, there are many classic games that exist in French versions, but many uniquely French games too! So while you’ll be busy trying to win, the kids will be improving their language skills without even noticing it. Win win!
