Creating a plan is the best form of attack against the dreaded cleaning beast! Whether it’s weekly, monthly, yearly, or even committing to a quarterly seasonal clean, breaking down the task makes it easier to contemplate and achieve, and for the whole family to stick to without any excuses!
Out with the old!
There’s something about the new year that inspires the organisational, go-getter spirit in all of us. Take full advantage of it and have a big sort out, donating, selling or recycling things you no longer want or need. It’s the perfect time seeing as though you’ll be needing to find a place to store all of those brand new Christmas gifts. And no, ‘in with the new’ is not the next logical step!

A new year is a golden to chance to set new intentions and boundaries, and where the family is concerned this can mean a shake-up of the household cleaning schedule and redressing any imbalances there may be. Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, maybe just insist on a couple of non-negotiable rules, such as hanging up wet towels after each use, or ensuring that toys are put away every night.
